This page gives a short overview over LERAs basic features and how to use them.

# Quick Start to generate a synopsis

Besides other functionality the basic collation works as follows:
  1. Under Documents the text witnesses can be uploaded as TXT- or XML-files (see /wiki/import for more information on the format). The selected segmentation will be used later in the text comparison.
  2. Under Editions you can create the synoptic comparison of the witnesses, as it can be seen on LERAs demo page. Just hit Add new edition and select some of the documents to (automatically) align their text segments, i.e. place similar text segments next to each other (the alignment can also be adjusted manually later).
  3. When you open the edition, you see a toolbar on top. With the button with the wrench-icon you can control the detailed comparison of the aligned segments, i.e. placing colored highlights to indicate changes on a word level. There are different compare filters (e.g. ignoring punctuation) and color modes. In addition to the options for the entire edition, there is also a separate fold-out menu bar under each segment to set the options locally. In addition, these drop-downs also contain an apparatus of the variants for a segment.
